One of my biggest goals for this year is to spend more time doing. In the past, I used to lament how many things that I had to do when I got home from work. There was this chore, or that task; this kid need to be over there or was waiting to be picked up. I never really felt like I had any time for myself.
Unfortunately, the time that I wanted for myself usually amounted to vegging out by sitting and watching TV. It really wasn’t getting accomplished any of the things that I wanted to be done. It also didn’t really give me any opportunity to spend any time with my kids, which I think was also leading to some behavioral issues with my youngest.
I decided that it was time to change all of that. Every morning I plan out what I want to accomplish for the day and add it to my task manager. Some days are already booked with American Legion or Boy Scouts while others need to be filled in with things for myself (reading, expanding my knowledge base, and even playing some video games) while other times get spent with my kids (talking, working on projects together, and even playing some video games).
So far, things are going very well. I am looking forward to the things that I need to do and having fun doing them. I am spending more quality time with my family and I have not felt like I have wasted any time since the new year started. I feel like things are getting done.
